The city of Llíria is strengthening its international profile as a city of music with the participation of the López Varela Quintet in the 44th edition of the Música em Leiria Festival in Portugal, with a concert scheduled for this Thursday.

The presence of the López Varela Quintet at this cultural event is part of the established relationship between Llíria and the Portuguese city of Leiria through the Orfeão de Leiria. This collaboration has facilitated various educational exchanges between students from Llíria's conservatory and Portuguese students, within the Erasmus+ program.
The Música em Leiria Festival, celebrating its 44th edition this year, coincides with the 80th anniversary of the Orfeão de Leiria. While maintaining a strong foundation in classical music, the event also embraces other genres such as jazz and artistic disciplines like dance, featuring both local and international artists.
The repertoire presented by the group from Llíria includes a journey through Spanish folklore, with works by prominent composers such as Gerónimo Giménez, Isaac Albéniz, and Joaquín Turina. Additionally, a piece by Valencian composer Ximo Tarín is included, offering a contemporary perspective to the musical proposal.
Among Tarín's works, the Quintet No. 1 stands out, a composition he created at just 17 years old, characterized by its expressive style and meticulous instrumental writing. This participation reinforces the ties between Llíria and Leiria within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network of Music, promoting cultural cooperation and the exchange of experiences.
