The Government Delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, and the Mayor of Riba-roja de Túria, Rober Raga, have visited the Turia river restoration works and the Guardian project, with an investment of 19 million euros for the river's recovery.

The river restoration works, promoted by the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ), have received 19 million euros for the reconstruction of the Turia river, affected by the DANA storm. These actions have been divided into two phases: an urgent removal of obstacles and a second phase of functional recovery of the river system, including hydrological regime improvement and bank stabilization along a 100-kilometer stretch.
The works are being carried out in twelve municipalities, including Sot de Chera, Gestalgar, Bugarra, Pedralba, Vilamarxant, Riba-roja de Túria, Manises, Paterna, Quart de Poblet, Xirivella, Mislata, and València, to consolidate the hydraulic, environmental, and functional recovery of the river. In Riba-roja, tasks such as debris removal, sediment reorganization, and bank adaptation have been completed, in addition to the reconstruction of seven damaged footbridges.

"These are more resilient installations. They are floodable walkways that will allow water to pass over them. Ultimately, the goal is for the reconstruction to improve what was there before October 29, 2024."

Pilar Bernabé · Government Delegate in the Valencian Community
Delegate Bernabé emphasized that Riba-roja has received over 500 million euros from the Government of Spain for post-DANA reconstruction, highlighting the executive's commitment to the recovery of the province of València and its natural environments.
Additionally, the Guardian project was visited, developed by the Riba-roja city council with FEDER funds and the collaboration of private entities and Valencian universities. This active forest fire defense system uses regenerated water from the Camp del Túria II WWTP and features 42 water cannons, protecting 37 hectares and 15,000 potential inhabitants of Riba-roja and Paterna. The Government of Spain has contributed four million euros for the reconstruction of this project, also affected by the DANA, and will support its expansion to l'Eliana in a second phase.
