This project is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, funded by the European Union through the Next Generation EU funds. In addition, it is included in the actions of the Sustainable Tourism Plan in Destination (PSTD), aimed at protecting the natural environment and improving tourist resources, according to municipal sources.

The intervention will take place on an area that partially coincides with the PR-CV 319 trail, known as Ruta dels Senglars (Wild Boar Route), in the natural park of Romeu. The main objective is to adapt and improve an existing firebreak, which is approximately 2.3 kilometers long and has a high density of vegetation after more than three decades without comprehensive action.

Planned works include silvicultural actions such as selective clearing of undergrowth, reduction of tree density, pruning, and removal of vegetation to create discontinuities that prevent fire propagation. Furthermore, two strategic forest management areas, totaling 1.2 hectares, will be established to enhance the effectiveness of the firebreak and facilitate firefighting efforts in case of an incident.

The action is expected to cover a total area of nearly 9.66 hectares in the firebreak area, plus complementary management zones. The generated plant remains will be treated in situ by shredding them, promoting their integration into the soil and reducing environmental impact. The contract, valued at 26,338 euros, has been awarded to the company Aper Ambient, which now has a one-month execution period.

With this initiative, the Sagunt City Council reinforces its commitment to forest fire prevention, the conservation of natural heritage, and the sustainability of public use spaces, while ensuring the safety of users of trails and natural environments in the municipality.
