Brazilian dancer Poliana Lima begins today the fifth artistic residency in Faura, organized by the Hort Art collective, with a workshop and exhibition focused on masks.

Renowned Brazilian dancer Poliana Lima, based in Madrid, is starring in the fifth artistic residency in Faura, an initiative by the local collective Hort Art. This project consolidates the work of Alexsandro Guerra and Pere Bodí as cultural promoters in the Valencian Community.
Under the title 'Baile de Máscara' (Mask Dance), Lima will offer a workshop and exhibition exploring the perspective generated by masks, investigating new ways of seeing, inhabiting, dancing, and listening to spaces. The proposal aims to open a space for experimentation with movement, beyond technique.

"It's not about dancing well or badly, it's about opening a space to experiment with movement."

The workshop, taking place on Monday 25 at 7:30 PM at l’Escorxador, is framed as a 'choreographic and scenic investigation of carnival, approached more as a mythical and ritual space where various archetypal characters unfold through the use of masks,' according to the artist. The Hort-Art community will participate in an exchange with methodologies and materials provided by the resident.
Aspects such as identity, belonging, and the understanding of colonialism are key to Lima's work. The exhibition of her work is scheduled for Tuesday 26 at 7:30 PM, also at l’Escorxador. The researcher will start from the question: 'What is the relationship between the mask understood as a collective face and the structure of the self, and what possibility is there for different characters to coexist within a single body?'.
This is the fifth residency in the 'Cossos Transitius' (Transitory Bodies) cycle, which has hosted five artists this year. The experience in Faura, including interaction with the land and the landscape of the Vall de Segó, has helped Hort Art gain visibility in national and international dance observatories.
The residency is supported by the Faura City Council and Acción Cultural Española, within the PICE Residencias program.
