A new legal challenge has forced the cancellation of the "Lúmina, Arrels i Sentits" festival in Canet, intended as a replacement for the 'Llamafest'. The decision halts the project's continuity and requires the return of European funds.

A new legal challenge has forced the cancellation of the "Lúmina, Arrels i Sentits" festival in Canet, which was announced as an alternative to the 'Llamafest' barbecue festival. The suspension comes just days before its scheduled start and prevents the continuation of the first edition of the 'Lúmina' festival, held in May, aimed at desestacionalizing tourism.
The activity planned for next Monday, which included a nighttime paella contest, has also been canceled. The same company that previously challenged the 'Llamafest' has filed new legal actions against this alternative. The council regrets the situation, attributing it to "reasons beyond the organization's control." The lights and DJ festival planned for June 23rd in the Plaza de los Pescadores has also been canceled, although the town hall is working on an alternative musical show with its own funding.
Regarding the Next Generation European funds, from which Canet has received nearly 2 million euros for the Sustainable Tourism Plan in Destination (PSTD), the council will have to return approximately 120,000 euros. This amount was committed to both the 'Llamafest' and this second edition of the 'Lúmina' festival.
The lawsuit filed with the Central Administrative Court of Contractual Appeals (TARC) argues that all projects stem from the same European fund, despite different names. Given the uncertainty of the TARC's verdict, the council has decided to return the funds to avoid potential financial losses if the decision goes against municipal interests. This situation has also altered the San Juan programming, including the children's performance "El moviment k-pop" for July 3rd.
