Iniciativa Porteña has expressed its opposition to the proposed construction of a new football stadium in Sagunt, labeling it unnecessary and disproportionate for the municipality.

The political group has voiced its rejection of the project presented by the Sagunt City Council to build a new football stadium next to the inter-nucleus sports center. According to Iniciativa Porteña, this infrastructure is «unnecessary, disproportionate, and detrimental to the interests of the entire municipality».
The initial project envisions a stadium with a capacity for 5,000 spectators, with the possibility of future expansion to over 20,000. A detailed study from 2021 estimated the cost at 16 million euros, a figure that, according to the group, «will be significantly increased due to the generalized rise in construction costs in recent years, potentially reaching a figure even higher than 22 million euros».

"This stadium is not a priority for our residents. It is an excessive investment that does not meet the real needs of either the Port or the municipality as a whole. The main football fields have been recently renovated, with the exception of the one used by Mare Nostrum, which will be this year. Therefore, football clubs already have their needs covered. It is inexplicable that they want to build a large-capacity stadium when it is not necessary."

The group also highlighted other urgent pending investments, such as an unfinished pavilion opposite the cemetery, deficiencies in the José Veral tracks, and necessary actions in Fornàs or the Atlético Saguntino field itself. They believe that ongoing projects should be completed and basic needs addressed before embarking on large-scale ventures.
Another aspect causing concern is the project's funding. Construction would begin with municipal resources, with the expectation of completion through contributions from other administrations and European funds. The group seriously doubts that these funds will materialize, which could turn the project into a financial ruin for municipal coffers.

"We find it deeply irresponsible to base an investment of this magnitude on uncertain expectations. We seriously doubt that these funds will arrive, which could turn this project into a ruin for municipal coffers."

With an estimated investment of between 16 and over 20 million euros, the municipal group emphasizes that numerous priority needs of the municipality could be addressed, such as street paving, the creation of municipal infant schools, public parking, a flood plan, the recovery of heritage like the Gerencia, the adaptation of public spaces, the construction of new swimming pools, or the creation of a long-demanded music auditorium.
Iniciativa Porteña has announced that it will oppose the execution of this project «with all our might», defending the interests of residents and preventing the municipality's economic future from being mortgaged by an infrastructure they consider unnecessary.
