The initiative, promoted by the Municipal Library Network, will bring together bookstores, local authors, and activities for all audiences in a day that aims to cap off an April focused on fostering reading habits.
The Councilor for Culture, Nely Baile, highlighted the Fireta as the grand finale of the April program and announced that the public will find recreational and cultural proposals from 10:00 AM, including children's games, readings, the awards ceremony for the most active readers, the presentation of a campaign on traditional games, and live music by the local group Chamán. She also emphasized the work carried out by the library network throughout the year to promote reading, especially among young people.
Alongside the Fireta, the April program includes established activities such as the Caña Literaria, a formula that combines literature and gastronomy and, for two euros, allows attendees to enjoy a beer and a tapa while listening to literary texts. Reading clubs, an exhibition, book presentations, and new initiatives aimed at specific audiences will also be held.
Among this year's novelties is the celebration of Book Day at the Domus Vi residence, where an activity with large-print books and the possibility of creating a specific reading club for residents will be promoted. In addition, a tailored proposal has been planned for students of the UECO classrooms, with the aim of bringing oral narration to them in a format adapted to their needs.
The Fireta will also highlight the local cultural fabric. Several bookstores from Santa Pola will set up their own spaces in La Glorieta, and six authors from the municipality will participate in the day to present and sign their works: Ramón Andreu Calderón, Xavi Orts Campello, Maite León Pujalte, Luis García Tejedor, Salvador Mellado, and Antonio López Lafuente.
The program scheduled for April 26 will start at 10:00 AM with children's games by Jocs de Fusta. At 11:30 AM, the “Los más lectores 2025” awards will be presented in children's and youth categories. Afterwards, between 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM, La Caña Literaria will take place, combining loud reading, music, and consumption. Throughout the morning, local authors will sign copies in their respective spaces.
