Definitive data from Aete reveals that the hotel occupancy rate in Elche during March was 78%. This figure represents a 1.6 percentage point increase compared to the same month last year, although it did not match the February figure, which was 2.9 points higher.
The average room price stood at 74.09 euros, an increase of 0.38 euros compared to a year ago. However, this increase is considered insufficient to guarantee the profitability of hotel businesses, due to rising inflation and operating costs.
Weekends showed the best occupancy figures, with rates close to 90%. Professional, cultural, and sports events also contributed to boosting accommodation activity in the locality. The main motivation for visitors was business tourism, accounting for 53.6%, while leisure clientele represented 46.4%.
Regarding origin, national clients (60.4%) outnumbered international visitors (39.6%). Among foreign travelers, the most numerous were from the United Kingdom (23.2%), followed by those from France (12.8%), Italy (11.1%), Germany (10.8%), the Netherlands (8.34%), Belgium (5.1%), Poland (4.8%), and Ireland (3.8%).
In the national tourism context, February data indicated an occupancy rate of 53.5%, with average prices of 116.32 euros and an average stay of 2.82 days. Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport recorded 1,609,368 passengers in March, with a spectacular year-on-year increase of 9.1%, setting a new record for this month.
Expectations for tourism in Elche in April are positive, although they are subject to the evolution of the war conflict in Iran. This conflict could have undesirable effects on international demand due to uncertainty in fuel supply and the generalized increase in prices.
