Elche CF Nears Safety with Crucial Victory Over Getafe

Elche CF has taken a significant step towards remaining in LaLiga EA Sports 2025/26 by narrowly defeating Getafe CF 1-0 in a match played under persistent rain at the Martínez Valero stadium.

The victory, secured by Víctor Chust's goal in the 19th minute, allows the Elche team to approach the final matchday with a degree of comfort, although safety is not yet mathematically guaranteed. Eder Sarabia's squad displayed strong resilience, particularly in a dominant first half where they controlled play and sought to extend their lead.
The game, witnessed by over 28,000 fans in a fervent Martínez Valero, was characterized by fine, persistent rain. Elche had to contend with the weather conditions and the pressure of the league standings, earning three points that could secure their survival if they win or draw away at Girona FC, or even if they lose depending on Levante UD's result.
The match held added significance due to the opponent, a Getafe side managed by José Bordalás who were also vying for a European qualification spot. The home team managed to secure a win at a critical juncture in the season, showing character and regaining confidence.
Sarabia's starting lineup, who had to watch from the stands due to suspension, featured a five-man defense with Chust, Affengruber, and Bigas as center-backs. Upfront, Álvaro Rodríguez and André da Silva formed the attacking partnership. Getafe, conversely, deployed a similar formation, relying on the speed of Satriano and Mario Martín.
Chust's goal came from a scrambled play, with a powerful shot from the edge of the box that found the top corner of David Soria's net. During the first half, Elche continued to dominate and had chances to increase their lead through shots from Morente, Álvaro, and Silva. Their advantage was further solidified when Getafe's Djené was sent off in the 39th minute for a foul on Germán Valera.
In the second half, Getafe, despite playing with ten men, attempted to rally and pressure Dituro's goal. However, Elche defended effectively and had opportunities to seal the win, including a shot that hit the post by Germán Valera. Tactical substitutions by both managers aimed to secure the result and utilize remaining energy.
With this victory, Elche CF is in a strong position to achieve survival, a goal that seemed challenging just a few weeks ago. The celebrations among the fans at the Martínez Valero reflected the importance of this triumph in their fight against relegation.
