The Compromís coalition has presented an institutional declaration at the Elche City Council to demand strict regulation of the vehicle storage lots proliferating around the airport.

The political group seeks for residents in areas such as Torrellano, El Altet, and Arenales del Sol to participate directly in the development of the urban planning instrument intended to control this activity. Furthermore, they are requesting a moratorium on new facilities and an increase in road safety inspections, given the expansion of these parking areas toward residential centers.
As reported by neighborhood groups, such as the Asociación Vial Aeropuerto Elche, the occupation of rural land has exceeded initial areas, affecting rural roads and paths used by pedestrians and cyclists. The coalition has criticized the municipal government's management, noting that the response to this issue has been late and insufficient during the current term.
Among the proposed measures, Compromís suggests creating a working group that includes residents, business owners, and administrations to reach broad consensus. The goal is to define suitable areas for these activities and ensure that the sector's growth does not harm the quality of life or safety on rural access roads.
