The platform Colectivos en Lucha por la Sanidad Pública, which includes the Plataforma per la reversió del Vinalopó, has called a public event for this Friday, May 22nd, in the Clara Campoamor hall of the Congress of Deputies. The event, starting at 10:30 AM, will focus on the need to constitutionally protect public healthcare, commemorating forty years of the General Health Law and analyzing current community participation.
The event will feature two debate panels with experts in healthcare, citizen participation, and constitutional law. Topics will include healthcare deprivatization, fair access to medicines, and analysis of the Ministry of Health's draft bill. It will also highlight the extension of private management for the Elx-Crevillent Health Department and the citizen mobilization driven by the Plataforma per la reversió del Vinalopó.
The first panel will include former Health Minister Carmen Montón, former manager of Alzira Hospital Isabel González, internal medicine doctor Remigio Cordero, and Secretary General of the Carlos III Health Institute, Ramón Gálvez. The second panel, starting at 12:30 PM, will feature Constitutional Law professor Diego López Garrido, primary care physician Ana Rosa Encinas, Cavecova president Juan A. Caballero, and representatives from the organizing platform.
This initiative is the second action by the state platform, which demands the repeal of laws such as 15/1997 (public-private concessions), articles of the General Health Law (singular agreements), and the Public Sector Contracts Law (abuse of minor contracts). They also call for the repeal of Royal Decree-Law 16/2012, which modified the universal coverage system.
The coordinator aims to halt the deterioration of public healthcare through increased funding and prevent resources from benefiting investment funds. Constitutional protection is considered a key tool for safeguarding Spanish public healthcare.
