Elche-born architect Antonio Macià has been selected as a finalist for the La Casa de la Arquitectura awards for his project 'Liquid Architecture', which creates perfumes based on emblematic buildings, such as Elche's Calaforra tower.

Antonio Macià's multidisciplinary project, which combines architecture, scents, and neuroscience, has captured the attention of the national awards. One of the perfumes, named 'Calahorra', is directly inspired by the historic tower of the city of Elche (Baix Vinalopó).
Macià explained that the psychology of senses and emotions is crucial today, and architecture must evolve in that direction. The 'Calahorra' perfume features aromas of mandarin, peppers, and other plant-based essences, complemented by pomegranate for color and date for a sweet touch.

"The psychology of senses, emotions, and well-being in people is something very present nowadays. Therefore, architecture must also move in that direction."

This innovative vision has led Macià to the finals in the research category of the La Casa de la Arquitectura awards, which recognize publications, theses, conferences, and other initiatives exploring new ways of practicing architecture. These awards, promoted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda, value architecture's capacity to address contemporary challenges with technical, cultural, and social excellence.
The call seeks projects that promote social and territorial cohesion, as well as actions that reflect on new ways of living. Proposals are submitted in six categories: adaptability, cohesion, innovation, public action, ephemeral, and research. Meanwhile, the first perfume in the collection is already available for sale in fifteen countries.
