“"Today we are awarding a project that is the basis of a very important facility that will serve to enhance all the municipalities of the province and, in particular, to further dignify the city of Elche."
For his part, the mayor of Elche congratulated the submitted works and their authors, emphasizing that they have understood the needs and idiosyncrasies of the city. He added that this space is essential to bring more glory to Elche and the province of Alicante, highlighting the city's population and economic weight within the Valencian Community.
The winning design, selected from 104 proposals, has received a prize of 108,900 euros and will be responsible for drafting the execution project and construction management for an amount of 5.3 million euros. The jury recognized that Trencadís stands out for its strategic elevated position above the street, offering wide and direct views over the Palm Grove and generating a more open and transversal urban relationship. The authors stated that the Elche Palm Grove is the main protagonist of the action, seeking integration and dialogue with the site.
The projects Porxà and Julio obtained the second and third prizes, endowed with 72,600 and 48,400 euros respectively. The two honorable mentions, of 18,150 euros each, went to the designs Daraxa and Bustan Al’Nakhil, and two honorary mentions were awarded to the proposals Ferriol and Mirador del Palmeral.
The sketches and plans of the winning works have been exhibited in the gardens of the Provincial Council and will later travel to Elche for exhibition. It is expected that the Alicante Provincial Council and the Elche City Council will soon sign an agreement to establish economic and management collaboration for this infrastructure, and contacts have already begun with the winning studio to advance in the drafting of the basic and execution project.
