The General Directorate of the Railway Sector is carrying out the work for the drafting of feasibility studies for this halt, along with other locations in the provinces of Valencia, Alicante, Madrid, and Toledo. The objective is to analyze the possibility of establishing new stops for the provision of Commuter Rail services on the existing general interest railway network.
In the specific case of Elche, the hypothetical halt would be located on the infrastructure of the current 03-336-El Reguerón-Alicante line and would provide service corresponding to the C-1 line of the Murcia-Alicante Commuter Rail hub. This initiative has the support of the Generalitat, which had already included it in sectoral mobility plans.
Recently, the deputy director general of Railway Planning has requested data from the local administration regarding the influx of workers to the business park. Specifically, he has asked for information on urban bus lines R10 and R11, which connect to the Torrellano industrial area and were implemented just over a year ago.
The data provided by the city council reveals a high demand for these lines. The R11 registered 597,463 passengers in one year, representing 33% of the total users of the service to outlying districts, while the R10 reached 284,527 passengers, 16% of the total. Both lines together account for nearly 800,000 annual users, demonstrating the need for efficient public transport for the 700 companies and 13,000 workers concentrated in the park.
The municipal corporation has recalled sending several letters to the Ministry, including one in June 2024, to request consideration of this stop in the Business Park. This request is part of a context of investment announcements in the Alicante-San Isidro section and the connection of Commuter Rail with the AVE station.
The proposal for the halt in Elche Business Park was already put forward in the Sustainable Metropolitan Mobility Plan for the Alicante-Elche area, which estimated the cost of the station's construction at 600,000 euros. The Ministry of Transport awarded the drafting of these feasibility studies for 250,000 euros in May 2025.
