Grady Diangana's reincorporation into Elche CF's squad occurred later than expected, after the Congolese Football Federation decided to extend his stay to celebrate their qualification for the upcoming World Cup. This decision has angered the Elche club, which has expressed its dissatisfaction to the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
Elche CF's complaint aims for the RFEF to inform the International Federation about the African federation's conduct. This measure is similar to those taken by other LaLiga clubs, such as Real Betis and RCD Espanyol, who were also affected by the retention of their international players, Cédric Bakambu and Charles Pickel, respectively.
Following the Congolese national team's victory against Jamaica in the playoff held in Mexico, the green-and-white club was informed from Brazzaville (Democratic Republic of Congo) that Diangana would not return on the agreed date. This communication ignored subsequent demands from Elche CF, which reminded them of the obligation to make the player available for the league match, despite his muscle injury preventing him from playing against Rayo Vallecano.
In addition to the formal complaint, the Elche entity is considering applying internal disciplinary measures to the footballer, who has already missed several matches this season due to injury. The Congolese Federation, for its part, will reward Diangana with a house and a car for the sporting success, as the senior national team had not participated in a World Cup final phase since 1974.
