The Orihuela City Council has initiated the tender process for the creation of a pedestrian and cycle path on Los Vicente road in La Murada, aiming to enhance road safety and accessibility at a key access point to the municipal sports center.

This project, with a base tender budget of 253,862.59 euros (VAT included), is expected to be completed within three months from the start of works. The initiative addresses the need to improve conditions on a road heavily used daily by residents, youth, and families in the hamlet.
The Councillor for Infrastructure and Maintenance, Víctor Valverde, emphasized the importance of this intervention, highlighting that Los Vicente road previously presented significant deficiencies. These included deteriorated pavement, irregularities increasing the risk of falls, lack of dedicated pedestrian space, and insufficient lighting, all contributing to a hazardous environment shared by vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians.

"We could not continue to allow such a frequently used access point to lack a safe route for pedestrians."

The project includes the creation of an accessible, clearly differentiated, and signposted pedestrian and cycle path, with a specific lane for pedestrians and cyclists separated from road traffic. Additionally, it involves a comprehensive renovation of the road surface through complete repaving with bituminous mixtures and improvements in surface regularity.
Furthermore, the public lighting system will be modernized, replacing existing luminaires with more efficient LED technology compliant with current regulations, and relocating columns to optimize their functionality. The works will also encompass widening the road in various sections, implementing a pedestrian and cycle lane of approximately 1.80 meters, installing horizontal and vertical signage, placing separating elements and cat's eyes, and adapting the surroundings to enhance their landscape integration.
This initiative is part of the municipal government's strategy to improve infrastructure in the hamlets, strengthening territorial cohesion and ensuring equal services for all citizens of Orihuela.
