The Generalitat Valenciana has announced an investment of over 82 million euros for the expansion of the Vega Baja Hospital in Orihuela, which will include two new buildings and 52 additional beds, enhancing the healthcare capacity of the region.

The expansion works at the Vega Baja Hospital in Orihuela involve an investment of over 82 million euros by the Generalitat Valenciana. This project adds 14,700 square meters to the existing facilities, with the construction of two new annex buildings for external consultations and a surgical block, in addition to increasing hospitalization capacity with 52 additional beds.
The head of the Consell highlighted that this action is part of the “legislature of new hospitals in the Valencian Community.” During his visit to the works, accompanied by other authorities, he toured the reforms already carried out, such as the main lobby, the emergency platform, the helipad, and the new waste building, in which the Generalitat has invested 8.5 million euros.

"The Consell is committed to quality public healthcare, to which it allocates three out of every 10 euros of the budget, totaling 9,186 million, the largest allocation in the history of the Generalitat."

The hospital expansion will increase its surface area by 40%, from 36,300 square meters to over 50,000. It is expected that all services will be operational by the end of this year. The North building will house external consultations, the day hospital, and mental health services, increasing from 30 to 98 medical consultations and from 10 to 23 nursing consultations.
The new Day Hospital will include an oncohematological day hospital with 16 beds and a polyvalent one with another 16, increasing from 20 to 32 beds. A new mental health day hospital for adults and children/adolescents, sized for 15 patients, will also be created, along with 12 new procedure rooms. The South building will be dedicated to outpatient surgery, with a major ambulatory surgery unit, a new sterilization center, and a hemodialysis unit.
The project also incorporates a new, larger parking area, and modifications have been made to improve the hospital complex's safety against climatic risks. These works will free up space in the current hospital, allowing for a second phase of transformation that will include the construction of a new delivery room and the expansion of Emergency, Radiology, and ICU services.
