Data updated on Tuesday, May 12, by the Census and Statistics Department, reveals that the municipality of Torrevieja has reached 113,453 registered residents. This figure solidifies the town as one of the cities with the highest demographic growth and multicultural diversity in Spain.
Of the total inhabitants, 56,126 are men and 57,327 are women. The population is characterized by a strong international presence, with over 62,000 foreign residents from 120 different nationalities. This contrasts with the 51,432 Spanish citizens, meaning that 57.4% of the population is now international.
The administrative activity derived from this population growth is intense. During the first quarter of 2026 alone, between January and March, the City Council processed 3,568 new registrations in the municipal census. Additionally, 1,603 changes of address and 1,879 renewals for foreign citizens were managed. Also, 357 confirmations of long-term foreign residency, 1,327 modifications of personal data, and 554 address rectifications were carried out.
The Census and Statistics department issued 10,589 certificates during the first three months of the year, making it one of the municipal services with the highest volume of public attention. The growth rate intensified further during April, coinciding with the start of the extraordinary regularization process for undocumented immigrants. In just one month, 1,355 new registrations were recorded in the municipal census, and 8,167 certificates were issued, 3,734 more than in March.
The Ukrainian community continues to be the most numerous among the foreign population residing in Torrevieja, with 10,787 registered individuals. They are followed by citizens from Colombia, with 5,892 residents; Russia, with 5,834; the United Kingdom, with 4,671; and Morocco, with 3,743 inhabitants. The city maintains a significant presence of European residents from countries such as Sweden, Romania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Italy, Germany, and Poland, reinforcing the municipality's international character.
The City Council highlights that this population increase also poses a challenge for public services and municipal infrastructure, necessitating the reinforcement of resources and citizen attention in response to the continuous rise in inhabitants recorded in recent years.
