The Generalitat Valenciana has tendered the drafting of the basic project and necessary studies to promote the future expansion of the CV-95, in the section between Orihuela and Torrevieja, with the aim of improving the capacity and road safety of one of the main axes of the Vega Baja.

The third vice president and regional minister of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery, Vicente Martínez Mus, has assured that this step fulfills a commitment made with the mayors of the area. He stated that this action is considered a priority for the region.

"As we committed to all the mayors of the area and with the Vega Baja, we are completing stages to make such a demanded and longed-for infrastructure a reality."

The contract, valued at 1,317,969.27 euros, will allow for the determination of the most suitable technical solution and the analysis of different action alternatives. These include the duplication of the road and the execution of bypasses to reduce traffic in the urban centers through which the road currently runs.
In addition, the tender includes the feasibility study and the contractual structure of the concession, in order to have technical support in the subsequent phases of the process. This formula, according to the Conselleria, will serve to prepare the development of an infrastructure whose investment is around 180 million euros.
The Generalitat maintains that the concession formula offers advantages for tackling an action of this magnitude. In this regard, Martínez Mus highlighted the possibilities of the availability payment system and stressed that «it will not entail any type of burden for users».
The CV-95 connects the interior of the region with the coast and supports high traffic intensity, especially during summer periods. The planned scope of action covers approximately 26.5 kilometers and crosses or borders municipalities such as Orihuela, Bigastro, Jacarilla, and San Miguel de Salinas. For much of its route, the road currently has a single lane in each direction and presents limitations due to its layout and integration into urban environments.
