During a visit to the construction site, the president of the Generalitat highlighted the Consell's commitment to strengthening public healthcare. He framed this intervention within a legislative term that, he argued, will be marked by the implementation of new health infrastructures in the Valencian Community.
The hospital's expansion will increase its surface area by 40%, from 36,300 to over 50,000 square meters. The forecast is that by the end of this year, all services planned for this phase will be operational.
The project includes the construction of two new buildings connected to the main one. The North building will house outpatient clinics, the day hospital, and the mental health area. With this expansion, the center will increase from 30 to 98 medical consultations and from 10 to 23 nursing consultations, in addition to expanding the endoscopy rooms from two to five.
A new oncohematological day hospital with 16 beds, a polyvalent day hospital with another 16, and a mental health day hospital for adults and children/adolescents with capacity for 15 patients will also be enabled. Additionally, 12 new procedure rooms will be added for various care areas.
The South building will be dedicated to outpatient surgery, with an ambulatory major surgery unit associated with the post-anesthetic recovery unit and the minor unit. Furthermore, it will house a new sterilization center and a new hemodialysis unit. The expansion will also increase hospitalization capacity with 52 additional beds. The project also incorporates improvements aimed at strengthening the complex's safety against climatic risks.
The reorganization of the hospital after this expansion will free up space in the current building to address a second phase of transformation. This stage is expected to include the construction of a new delivery room and the expansion of areas such as Emergency, Radiology, and ICU, as well as facilitating the creation of a Short-Stay Unit and a pre-admission unit to streamline hospital admissions.
As part of the modernization process, several infrastructures are already operational, including the new main access with lobby and information point, the Emergency platform, the helipad, and the new waste building. Additionally, the first phase of the new exterior boulevard has been completed, under which an underground parking lot with spaces for electric vehicles from the Home Hospitalization Unit and adapted accesses for people with reduced mobility has been enabled.
