The Civil Guard has arrested a 39-year-old man in Benicarló as the alleged perpetrator of drug trafficking, marijuana cultivation, and electricity fraud, after dismantling an indoor plantation.

The operation began after an investigation by agents from Benicarló, who detected a possible irregularity in the electricity supply. From there, investigators launched an operation to clarify the origin of this anomaly and verify if it could be linked to criminal activity.
The agents located a small building of about 50 square meters where they observed signs compatible with an indoor plantation, including ventilation and refrigeration systems, as well as an irregular electrical installation that, allegedly, was fraudulently supplied from a nearby electrical tower.
During surveillance, the civil guards confirmed the presence of a person in charge of the maintenance and surveillance of the plantation. Subsequently, and in coordination with the energy supply company, the property was inspected. Inside, agents found an indoor cannabis plantation consisting of 152 plants in an advanced state of flowering, with a total approximate weight of 285 kilograms. In the same operation, the alleged perpetrator was also located, hidden among the material used for cultivation.
The installation had a technical system aimed at maximizing production, with intensive lighting using lamps, climate control equipment, fans, and air filters to hinder detection by smell. In addition to the plantation, investigators verified that the electrical system lacked safety measures, a circumstance that posed a risk to nearby homes. Together with operators from the electricity company, agents dismantled the illegal connection to prevent further damage to the supply network.
The proceedings, along with the detainee, have been placed at the disposal of the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 2 of Vinaròs.
