The Valencia Provincial Council has presented the 49th edition of its Band Competition, an event that brings together numerous musical societies from the province and will be held on May 2nd and 3rd at the Palau de la Música.

This competition, now in its 49th edition, is on the verge of a 50th anniversary that promises to be “very exclusive,” as highlighted by the Deputy for Music Bands, Ricardo Gabaldón. This year's edition has seen a massive response from musical societies, with all categories full and bands on a waiting list.

"The competition is a showcase for band music and a reflection of the vitality of musical societies."

The Deputy for Culture, Paco Teruel, was also present at the presentation, which took place at the Palau dels Scala. There, the great musical potential of the province of Valencia was emphasized.
The director of the Palau de la Música, Vicent Llimerá, welcomed the participants to the “cathedral of music,” stressing that this competition serves as motivation for bands in their daily work. Groups from towns such as Bocairent, Carcaixent, Benaguasil, Quartell, Benimàmet, Ontinyent, Ador, Moncada, Vilamarxant, Villargordo del Cabriel, San Isidro, and Benimaclet will participate in the different sections of the competition.
The competition will kick off on Saturday, May 2nd, with the Fourth section at 10:30 AM, and will continue in the afternoon with the First section. On Sunday, May 3rd, the Third and Second sections will be held. Admission to the performances will be free until full capacity is reached, and they can also be followed live via the Provincial Council's YouTube channel.
The jury will be chaired by Mercedes Padilla and will include experts such as Francisco Zacarés, Maurizio Colasanti, Cristóbal Soler, and Salvador Vázquez. Prizes will range from 2,500 to 5,500 euros, in addition to possible honorable mentions, and all groups will receive participation aid. Bands will perform compulsory works such as Reminiscencias, Fantasía muladiana, Terra de somnis, and Xerebulta, along with pieces of their own choice. At the end of each section, there will be musical performances by Camerata la Stravaganza and the Elle Sax quartet, who enlivened the presentation with interpretations of soundtracks such as Skyfall, An American in Paris, and The Pink Panther.
