The Ontinyent City Council has launched the final phase of the Ontinyent Participa 2026 participatory budgeting process, introducing a new point system for voting.

Residents over 16 years old registered in the city can now participate in this stage, where they can select up to five projects. The new system allows assigning 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 points according to the order of preference, eliminating the previous mandatory minimum of three projects. Now, participants can vote for a single project or up to five, as they choose.
Among the finalist proposals are initiatives such as a brush clearing and trail improvement plan, the creation of a municipal program to enhance cognitive accessibility in establishments, the organization of psychology and emotional management workshops, the promotion of Valencian, or the renovation of machinery in the sports center's gym.
Other proposals include first aid courses, a technical study to identify abandoned properties on Calle Mayor, the creation of playgrounds for all ages, the expansion of youth programming, an increase in trees throughout the population, and the opening of the Sant Josep Library on weekend mornings with activities for all audiences.
Voting can be done until May 24 on the website www.ontinyentparticipa.es and municipal social media. Additionally, street facilitators equipped with tablets are making in-person voting easier, visiting the Monday market and the city's high schools. The municipal government encourages all citizens over 16 years old to get involved in the final vote to decide which initiatives will be carried out.

"This new system, proposed in response to neighborhood requests, will allow us to better prioritize the initiatives that each person considers most important, and thus better reflect the will of the citizens."

Another improvement introduced, also at the request of residents, has been that the order of presentation of proposals on the ballot and in the digital list has been decided by drawing lots in the neighborhood council, with the aim of guaranteeing maximum neutrality in the process.
