The initiative addresses the mobility and access challenges specific to the Medieval Quarter. A pilot test took place on Saturday, May 30th, using a small municipal vehicle that collected bulky waste from residents at key locations such as Placeta de Sant Vicent, Placeta de Sant Tomàs, and Portal d’Agost.
The positive reception of this trial has led both entities to consider making the service permanent. The proposal is for the service to be offered once a month, with collection points in different areas of the historic center, thereby assisting residents with waste management.
“"With this initiative, which arose at the request of some residents, we continue with the line of joint actions by the neighborhood association and the City Council to respond to the needs and problems of the Quarter."
From the association, president Xavi Pascual also called for greater involvement from the Generalitat Valenciana in the conservation and recovery of buildings.
For his part, Ximo Carbonell, councilor responsible for the Medieval Quarter, highlighted that the City Council is working in two areas: resolving structural problems in the historic center and facilitating the daily lives of residents. The new bulky waste collection service falls under this second category, which has already seen other initiatives such as door-to-door garbage collection and the new traffic and parking ordinance.
