The opening evening of the XIX Gandia Guitar Festival took place yesterday in the cloister of the Escola Pia, which was completely filled. The concert, titled Dos Tierras, featured violinist Vanessa Méndez and guitarist Joan Campos, who offered a repertoire of great artistic sensitivity. In addition to the music, attendees enjoyed a guided tour of the historical heritage of the Escuelas Pías, an initiative that unites music and culture in one of the festival's new venues.
The program continues today, Friday, June 26, with a recital by South Korean guitarist Kiwon Cho, the second prize winner of the Gandia Guitar Competition in the previous edition. His concert is expected to be characterized by his interpretive sensitivity and technical virtuosity. On the same day, the audience can also enjoy A partir de un bolero, with David López and Lydia Gregory, who will perform boleros and works by Latin American composers.
Flamenco will have its space on June 27 with Almas Flamencas, a Valencian group composed exclusively of women and recognized for its commitment to "social flamenco." The festival's program will continue with a recital by the prestigious Italian guitarist Giovanni Grano on June 29, a specialist in the Italian romantic repertoire. On June 30, Cançons i tangos will be performed by Rubén Parejo and David Fons.
The performances will continue on July 1 with the Dúo Canelobre, formed by Fernando Espí and Miguel Ángel González. On July 2, Italian guitarist Emanuele Pauletta, winner of the latest edition of the Gandia Guitar Competition, will close the festival's main concerts.
