The Gandia City Council has confirmed the resumption of works on the Toni Herreros athletics track next Tuesday, after overcoming an unforeseen halt and formalizing the contract with the new company, Sportan.

The general coordinator of Urban Planning, Maite Alonso, has reported that, after months of technical and administrative efforts, the contract with the company Sportan has been formalized. This company has submitted all required documentation, including the health and safety plan, which is pending final approval in the coming hours. The signing of the staking-out act, which will mark the official start of the works, is scheduled for next Tuesday.
The council explained that the interruption of the works was due to unexpected circumstances related to the previous contractor. This situation necessitated a complex administrative process to ensure the project's continuity with all necessary legal and technical guarantees.

"It was an unforeseen situation that the City Council could not predict."

Jesús Naveiro · Sports Councillor
The Sports Councillor, Jesús Naveiro, highlighted the intense work of the municipal departments, especially Urban Planning, to find a swift solution, always with rigor and legal certainty. The City Council has coordinated efforts to accelerate timelines within the complexity of the process, which included the transfer of the contract to a new company while maintaining the initial conditions.
Alonso also confirmed that the project maintains the original characteristics agreed upon with the sports clubs, both in materials and construction system. The track's surface will be of EPDM type, a higher quality, more sustainable material with better technical performance, which will ensure greater durability and athletic performance.
According to the contractor's plan, the installation of the tartan surface will take approximately two months. If the scheduled deadlines are met and no external factors, such as adverse weather conditions, arise, the works could be completed during the second half of July.
Finally, Naveiro thanked the patience and collaboration of the city's clubs and athletes during this period, emphasizing the effort made to maintain sports activity despite the difficulties and stating that alternatives for athletes have already been discussed with the clubs.
