The Valencian Community Triathlon Federation has issued a statement apologizing to participants of the Tavernes de la Valldigna triathlon who were affected by the massive presence of jellyfish during the swimming segment last Sunday.

The Valencian Community Triathlon Federation has acknowledged its responsibility and apologized to the participants of the triathlon held at Tavernes de la Valldigna beach who suffered the consequences of the massive presence of jellyfish. The entity deeply regrets the discomfort, concern, and physical effects that the situation caused to numerous triathletes.
According to the statement, the presence of jellyfish is a circumstance that had been detected in previous circuit reviews, but the observed concentration did not foreshadow the magnitude it reached during the competition. Although the use of wetsuits was permitted, the appearance of a jellyfish swarm created an unforeseen situation that forced a modification of the circuit for subsequent starts.
The Federation is aware that the decisions made did not prevent the consequences for many participants. Therefore, it has committed to analyzing the events in detail and identifying potential areas for improvement. "We share your disappointment about what happened and commit to continuing to work to live up to the trust you place in us every time you wear a bib," the statement concludes.
The entity also wished to thank the rapid and effective work of the medical staff, volunteers, officials, the town council, and the organization, as well as all those who collaborated in assisting the affected triathletes, especially in such a complex context.
