Tavernes de la Valldigna will host the first celebration of International Romani Day on Saturday, April 11, with a festive event in Plaça 9 d'Octubre to promote inclusion and coexistence.

The Tavernes de la Valldigna City Council has organized the inaugural celebration of International Romani Day, observed annually on April 8. The event will take place on Saturday, April 11, starting at 6 PM in Plaça 9 d'Octubre, with the primary goal of fostering inclusion, equality, and coexistence among all citizens.
The festive program will feature various musical performances. It will commence with the flamenco dance group Raíces, followed by the show La Leyenda del Tiempo, and conclude with a performance by Juanvi Plaza & Polvarea. Later, at 9 PM, a popular roasted chicken tasting will be offered to attendees, creating a space for gathering and camaraderie.

"In our town, we are all equal, and we want this to be a day of brotherhood, coexistence, and celebration, open to everyone, to get to know and enjoy a very special day together. Throughout this year, we have held meetings to listen to them, support them, and give them the space they deserve, and as a result of that joint work, we are organizing this festival."

Lara Romero · Mayor of Tavernes de la Valldigna
For the organization of this celebration, Mayor Lara Romero, along with the Councilors for Festivities, Carlos Torres, and Social Services, Amparo Bo, have met on several occasions with representatives of the local Romani community. These meetings served to gather ideas and proposals, emphasizing the importance of giving visibility to Romani culture and strengthening community ties.

"This celebration represents a very important step for Tavernes, because we recognize the culture and history of the Romani people as an essential part of our society. We want an open, diverse, and inclusive city, where all people feel represented and respected."

Carlos Torres · Councilor for Festivities of Tavernes de la Valldigna
Councilor Amparo Bo highlighted that the program has been designed to combine tradition, music, and coexistence, aiming for the day to be a moment of enjoyment and, at the same time, reflection on equal opportunities and the coexistence of cultures.
