The municipality of Potries has become the educational epicenter of La Safor with the celebration of the Trobada d'Escoles en Valencià, a massive event that this year advocated for the defense of public education and supported the ongoing teachers' strike.
The town hosted, twenty years after its last edition, a gathering under the theme "We Have History, We Are Future," which significantly increased its usual population. A total of 54 schools and institutes from 26 municipalities, along with 35 entities from the region, filled the streets of Potries last Saturday, May 30th, accompanied by the traditional sounds of the tabal and dolçaina, and the town's music band.
The Gathering coincided with a complex sociopolitical context, marked by the indefinite educational strike that the teaching community has maintained for almost four weeks. Teachers, families, and students fully engaged in a day of protest.
“
"We have enormous enthusiasm for the Gathering to be held here in Potries, twenty years after this Plaza del País Valencià hosted the one in 2006. Many local women have volunteered to make this possible."
The mayor of Potries, Sergi Vidal, expressed his pride in the event's success and highlighted its social background. He insisted that the event supports the demands of the educational sector.
“
"We are at war for our language, Valencian; but also for public education and for thousands of teachers who are defending it with the utmost dignity. We are with you!"
Vidal raised his voice during the welcome ceremony, showing the town's support for the teachers' demands for the defense of Valencian and public education.
