The Popular Municipal Group of Gandia will present two motions at the upcoming council meeting to improve sustainable mobility, proposing a municipal bicycle rental system and a plan to expand and modernize the electric vehicle charging network.
The Popular Municipal Group of Gandia will present two motions at the upcoming ordinary June plenary session focused on improving the city's sustainable mobility. The initiatives propose, on one hand, the implementation of a municipal bicycle rental system and, on the other, a plan to expand and modernize the charging point network for electric vehicles.
As explained by the spokesperson for the Popular Municipal Group of Gandia, Víctor Soler, both proposals respond to real needs already present in the city that require a response from the City Council.
“
"Gandia cannot be left behind in sustainable mobility. We need to offer real alternatives to private vehicles, facilitate urban travel, and equip the city with modern infrastructure that meets the current needs of residents and visitors."
The first motion proposes the creation of a municipal bicycle rental system with a network of stations distributed throughout the municipal area. The initiative seeks to leverage Gandia's extensive existing cycle path network and offer a convenient, economical, and sustainable transport alternative. The Popular Party recalls that Gandia has a significant volume of internal travel and believes that a service of this nature would contribute to reducing traffic, improving air quality, and promoting healthier lifestyles.
“
"Many cities similar to Gandia already have successful public bicycle services. We have a consolidated network of cycle paths and a city with ideal conditions to implement this system."
Furthermore, the proposal includes the possibility of integrating this service in the future with other public transport alternatives, promoting intermodality and improving connections between neighborhoods, educational centers, sports facilities, and economic activity zones.
The second motion focuses on electric mobility and proposes a comprehensive review of the current situation of existing charging points in the city. The PP proposes conducting a complete technical audit to ascertain the real status of all municipal facilities and identify potential issues. Likewise, the initiative calls for the repair of broken points, the progressive expansion of the network, and the development of a Municipal Plan to Boost Electric Mobility that includes new installations in both Gandia and its beach area. Priority locations suggested by the motion include commercial zones, sports facilities, administrative areas, the university district, the beach, and various city neighborhoods.
“
"Sustainable mobility cannot be limited to mere speeches or announcements. A clear strategy, sufficient infrastructure, and services that genuinely facilitate citizens' lives are needed."
The popular spokesperson believes that Gandia should take advantage of existing funding opportunities to accelerate the implementation of these measures. "Other cities are advancing rapidly thanks to European funds and ambitious mobility plans. Gandia must recover lost time and become a more modern, accessible city better prepared for future challenges," he concluded.
