The Local Government Board of Gandia City Council addressed several key issues including inclusive employment, social policies, housing, sports, citizen security, and social cohesion. Government spokespersons Alícia Izquierdo and Balbina Sendra reported on the agreements.
First Deputy Mayor Alícia Izquierdo highlighted the submission of an application to Labora, Valencian Employment and Training Service, to access a subsidy for hiring unemployed individuals with severe mental disorders. The aim is to enhance their employability through work experience.
'From the local government, we continue to support policies that put people at the center and create opportunities for groups that often face greater difficulties accessing the labor market,' stated Izquierdo. She emphasized that 'employment is a fundamental tool for inclusion and personal autonomy.'
Additionally, a direct aid of 14,000 euros was approved for the Gaudim Association to support its operations, facility rental, and leisure program, fostering social interaction spaces for people with functional diversity. Izquierdo underscored the 'essential' work of associations like Gaudim in advancing towards a more inclusive society.
The Local Government Board also resolved to initiate civil legal actions against SAREB and CASA 47-State Entity for Housing and Land for breach of contract regarding the transfer of a property at Sant Enric street, number 22, which the City Council intended to acquire for social housing. The operation, initially authorized by SAREB, had a Generalitat subsidy of 834,305 euros.
'The City Council has the obligation to defend the general interest and the committed public resources,' stated Izquierdo, referring to the social housing operation.
Finally, a subsidy of 14,800 euros was approved for the Safor Athletics Club to fund local sports activities such as the Women's Race, the 10K Nocturna Platja de Gandia-Memorial Toni Herreros, the Business Race, and the Marathon.
For her part, Balbina Sendra reported on the initiation of the process for contracting a new comprehensive municipal video surveillance system, with an investment exceeding 1.3 million euros. The project includes new cameras, integration of existing ones, a centralized management and recording system, a videowall for the Local Police control center, and body cameras for officers.
'We are talking about a strategic action that will allow us to strengthen police prevention, response, and coordination capabilities, improving safety and coexistence in our streets,' noted Sendra, highlighting the system's scalability and respect for citizens' rights.
In urban planning matters, the initiation of a simplified strategic environmental and territorial assessment linked to the Partial Plan Les Foies, zone B, has been approved. This modification affects only the volumetry of the planned residential buildings without increasing buildable area.
Finally, Sendra announced that the Generalitat Valenciana has officially authorized Gandia City Council to implement the Escola d’Acollida (Welcome School) program, aimed at facilitating the integration of immigrants. Gandia has also been registered in the regional registry.
'A stronger city is also a more cohesive city, where all people have access to opportunities, information, and public resources,' concluded Sendra.
