The city of Gandia will make an investment of 1.33 million euros to modernize its citizen security, implementing an advanced video surveillance system with artificial intelligence and 175 personal cameras for Local Police officers.

Before the end of the year, the streets of Gandia will feature a state-of-the-art video surveillance system. This project not only expands the municipality's visual network but also incorporates artificial intelligence and equips the Local Police with personal cameras for its officers.
The municipal project, which will begin implementation after the summer months, aims to go far beyond simply installing devices. 38 new cameras will be installed at strategic public road points, already authorized by the Government Delegation, and the management of the 124 traffic cameras and public buildings that previously operated independently will be unified under one technological umbrella.
This entire network will be connected to an advanced management system equipped with artificial intelligence. This will allow authorities to conduct quick searches for vehicles, people, or specific events in minutes, drastically reducing typical police investigation times.
In direct interaction with citizens, one of the most striking elements will be seeing officers patrolling with recording devices on their uniforms. The incorporation of 175 bodycams aims to guarantee both operational security in various street interventions and the legal protection of the police themselves, all under strict regulatory compliance for image retention for a legal period of one month.

"This action will strengthen police efficiency, effectiveness, and response capability. It responds to a plan initiated two years ago, motivated by the need to address certain challenges faced by any growing city."

For its part, the opposition has expressed concern about the lack of personnel. A spokesperson for the Popular Party of Gandia has indicated that the investment comes late and that the decision validates their recurring complaint about a security problem in the city. Furthermore, they have shown skepticism regarding the actual staff that will support the use of this new technology, questioning who will carry these cameras if the number of police officers is not increased.
