The Club Atletisme Gandia-Alpesa is preparing for the Spanish Master Half Marathon Championship in Mérida this Saturday, April 11, aiming to rank among the top seven national clubs despite facing various challenges.

The competition, held in Mérida, features a 21-kilometer course with significant elevation changes and few flat sections, making it one of the most demanding events on the national calendar for master athletes.
The Gandia team will be represented by Pepe Vidal (M55), Diego Vidal (M50), Desiree Pellicer (F50), Javier Montilla (M50), Jesús Segrelles (M50), and Aitor Cabezas (M45). These athletes will compete in the club classification within the M45-M50 grouped categories, a circumstance that may disadvantage the team, as most of its members are over 51 years old and will face younger competitors within the same range.
Preparation for this important event has been hampered by injuries, with up to four athletes arriving with physical difficulties after challenging weeks. This situation adds extra value to their participation, highlighting the personal effort made to represent the club and the city of Gandia.
After achieving a brilliant bronze at the Spanish 10K Championship in Ibiza on February 15, the team acknowledges that fighting for medals is a tough goal this time. Nevertheless, they approach the race with ambition and a strong spirit of overcoming challenges, aiming to place among the top 7 clubs in Spain.
The participation of C.A. Gandia-Alpesa in this championship is a testament to the commitment, sacrifice, and passion for athletics that characterize this group of master athletes, who once again will give their all to proudly defend their club's colors and the name of Gandia in a national-level competition.
