The Consortium of the Valencian Central Regions has approved new strategies to boost mobility and social participation, including an agreement with the University of Alicante and the creation of an Economic and Social Council.

The General Board of the Central Regions Consortium held a session yesterday afternoon at the Urbalab building in Gandia. During this meeting, several key initiatives were approved for the integrated, intelligent, and sustainable development of the regions it encompasses, using innovation as a primary tool to address social, economic, urban, and environmental challenges in the territory.
One of the most notable agreements was the allocation of 108,900 euros for a collaboration agreement with the University of Alicante. This agreement aims to develop research studies focused on improving railway and mobility services in the region. Planned actions include a technical, environmental, and economic feasibility study for implementing new TRAM services between Gandia and Dénia.
Additionally, a passenger demand analysis will be conducted to increase the frequency of regional railway services between Alcoi, Ontinyent, and Xàtiva, and a study on the potential of regional high-speed rail at Xàtiva station will be carried out. Participating researchers will also be required to attend follow-up meetings and make public presentations of their findings.
Another significant point was the approval of the regulations for the Economic and Social Council (CES) of the Consortium. This consultative body is established to strengthen the participation of social and economic agents in territorial decision-making, promoting social cohesion, balanced and sustainable development, and economic, cultural, and environmental advancement of the regions. It will comprise institutional, political, business, trade union, and academic representatives.
The CES will be permanent and will act as an advisory body, with the capacity to formulate proposals, issue reports, and conduct strategic diagnoses to guide public policies. Its main body will be the Plenary, responsible for defining lines of action and monitoring projects. A consultation period is now open for interested agents and entities to submit their contributions.
Finally, during the session, the Consortium's general budget for the 2026 fiscal year was also approved, along with the financial contributions to be made by its members.
