The restaurant Casa Repinaldo, from Candás (Asturias), has taken first prize in the 51st edition of the Gandia International Fideuà Contest. The event, which this year celebrated its second night edition at the Moll dels Borja, gathered hundreds of attendees to discover the winner of the prestigious award, which includes the Santa Isabel collar.
The award for the best foreign contestant went to the restaurant Paella de Leyva, from Colombia. Meanwhile, the award for the best fideuà from Gandia was given to the restaurant Blasco Bahamas. Other accolades include national and Valencian Community awards, as well as for the best cooking school.
The mayor of Gandia, José Manuel Prieto, highlighted the importance of fideuà as a gastronomic emblem and a symbol of the city's identity. "We are a destination where gastronomy, tradition, sea, and quality of life unite to offer an experience that places the city among the best in the world," stated Prieto, emphasizing the work of generations in promoting this dish internationally.
David Pardo, president of the Gandia Fideuà Gastronomic Association, stressed that the event serves as a promotional tool for the city and its recipe, thanking the jury, participants, sponsors, and institutions for their involvement. He highlighted gastronomy's ability to unite cultures and project Gandia's image worldwide.
“"Gandia is a unique destination where gastronomy, tradition, sea, and quality of life unite to offer an experience that places it among the best cities in the world to enjoy and around the table."
