The initiative, supported by Compromís Més Gandia, seeks for the autonomous administration to pay nearly 6 million euros for actions already executed and paid for by the council. These actions include projects linked to the Pla Edificant and the works of the new Palace of Justice.
According to the socialists, the City Council has had to advance its own funds to carry out investments that are not its direct responsibility. They believe that this situation turns the council into a provisional financier for the Generalitat, forcing it to bear an economic burden that does not correspond to it and that conditions the management of the municipal budget.
“"It is not reasonable for a local administration to have to bear the cost of projects promoted by the autonomous sphere for so long."
In addition to this debt, another 4 million euros that Gandia would have stopped receiving in autonomous subsidies and aid since the political change in the Consell would be added. These losses are located in areas particularly sensitive to the local economy, such as employment and tourism, sectors with significant weight in the city's activity.
The Finance Councilor has harshly criticized the Generalitat's attitude towards Gandia and has assured that residents do not deserve to feel “disregarded” by the Consell. He regretted that the money advanced by the City Council to execute certain works takes so long to return to municipal coffers.
The PSPV has also directed its criticism at the Partido Popular of Gandia, accusing them of not firmly defending the city's interests before the Valencian Government. The socialists maintain that local populars are choosing to look the other way instead of demanding payment of the outstanding amounts.
