“"The Major Festivities, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC), represent a unique combination of history, tradition, and evolution. They have known how to grow over time, opening up to all citizens and consolidating themselves as a participatory and vibrant space. With this step, Cullera reinforces its commitment to more egalitarian festivities and faithful to its heritage."

The town of Cullera has marked a historic turning point in its Major Festivities by incorporating women for the first time into the representation of 'The Four Parts of the World', an emblematic figure of the processional ceremony.
The female incorporation took place during the traditional Baixà de la Mare de Déu del Castell, the act that officially kicks off the celebrations and one of the most crowded and anticipated moments. In this way, two women have become the first to participate in a representation that historically had been reserved exclusively for men.
The figures of 'The Four Parts of the World' accompany the Mare de Déu del Castell in the solemn processions of the Baixà, the Pujà, and that of Sant Vicent. Their function is ceremonial and to escort the one known as the 'Queen of the Heavens'. This element is fundamental in the collective imagination of Cullera, linked to popular devotion and the festive identity of the municipality.
The attire of these figures holds great symbolic value and is a prominent part of local iconography. It consists of a wide blouse and blue tights, short breeches with lace, a ribbed collar, cuffs, and a characteristic hat adorned with strings of pearls and flowers. A bunch of colorful silk ribbons completes the ensemble, adding splendor and solemnity to the procession.
This advance joins the step already taken in 2022 with the appointment of the first mace-bearer, a milestone in local festive history. Cullera thus continues to move towards greater equality, adapting its traditions to current reality without losing its essence.
