The initiative, which has the collaboration of the Federation of Venezuelan Associations in Spain (FEVENAES), aims to mobilize citizens to send aid to the South American country. As explained by the Councilor for Social Action, Sari Sáez, the Venezuelan community in Sueca, numbering around 500 citizens, contacted the council to request support and coordinate collection efforts for greater effectiveness. The goal is for all aid to reach those affected directly.
Sáez highlighted the "brutal" response from the public on the first day of the campaign and expressed her emotion upon hearing the stories of Venezuelan residents about their families and the situations they are experiencing. She noted that it is the citizens themselves, in direct contact with their relatives, who are indicating the most needed products. The City Council will provide updates on urgent demands through its social media channels.
The Councilor for Social Cooperation, Carolina Torres, emphasized the "great solidarity that our city always demonstrates." The collection point will be open at the Town Hall Square from Monday to Friday. Torres thanked the donations and the collaboration of volunteers, recalling the Valencian Community's recent experience with the dana (flood) and sending support to the Venezuelan victims.
The collection point will be operational from June 29 to July 3, between 10 AM and 12 PM, and from 6 PM to 8 PM. Donations can include personal hygiene products, baby supplies, non-perishable food, and first-aid materials. Additionally, the City Council observed a minute of silence for the victims, after which a Venezuelan resident expressed gratitude for the solidarity received.
