The operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of forty kilograms of hyaluronic acid originating from Asia, which is not authorized for use or sale within the European Union. The investigation began following routine inspections where officers detected two shipments from Asia containing forty kilograms of hyaluronic acid mixed with a local anesthetic.
Investigators identified a chain of aesthetic clinics as the recipient of the shipments and conducted an initial inspection at one of their establishments in Madrid. During the operation, they discovered numerous medical products stored in consultation rooms and in premises used as a warehouse, seizing hundreds of units allegedly intended for aesthetic treatments.
Officers also immobilized other medical products to verify their compliance with current regulations. Subsequent analyses confirmed that some of the seized materials lacked authorization for marketing and use, while other products presented deficiencies related to labeling and required regulatory standards.
On April 28th, simultaneous inspections were carried out at nine aesthetic clinics in Madrid, Bilbao, Barcelona, Valencia, Ibiza, Seville, Malaga, and Almendralejo. Unauthorized medical products were found at one of the inspected establishments located in Seville.
As a result of the operation, the administrators of the clinics, along with the head of purchasing for one of them, were arrested for crimes against public health and consumer fraud. Additionally, seven other individuals professionally linked to the inspected establishments are under investigation for the same offenses. The operation concluded with the seizure of a total of 278 products.
