The Diputación de Valencia has received international recognition for the pedestrian and cycling bridge connecting Sueca and Fortaleny, an infrastructure that has facilitated safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists over the A-38 since last summer.
The award was presented within the framework of the II World Congress on Public Works Heritage, organized by the College of Civil Engineers. This event brings together experts and administrations involved in infrastructure construction, where the bridge was highlighted as one of the best public works heritage projects.
The president of the Diputación, Vicent Mompó, accepted the award accompanied by the deputy for Roads, Reme Mazzolari, during a ceremony held at the Santa Bárbara Castle.
“
"This recognition highlights a way of carrying out public works designed to improve people's lives and strengthen the connection between municipalities."
Mompó emphasized that the infrastructure addresses a real need in the territory. He also praised the work of the technical team of Roads and Mazzolari's role in developing a network that is
“
"more human, safer, and adapted to current needs."
The bridge, operational since last summer, safely overcomes the barrier posed by the A-38, facilitating the passage of pedestrians and cyclists between Sueca and Fortaleny.
“
"The project is committed to infrastructures well integrated into the environment and oriented towards more sustainable mobility."
The bridge's design incorporates a large central metallic arch that ensures safety and minimizes impact on the road. This action is part of a broader project to connect the two municipalities, which began with the rehabilitation of the Alfonso XIII bridge over the Júcar River —also known as the Iron Bridge— and will be completed with the final section of the itinerary, currently under execution.
