The Association of Camareras de la Mare de Déu confirmed this past weekend the election of María Dolores Adam and Isabel María Palau as the new 'camareras' (chambermaids) of Cullera's patron saint. This appointment holds special significance in the organization of the upcoming patron saint festivities.
The designation of these two women consolidates the continuity of a tradition deeply embedded in the city's festive and religious life, where the role of the 'camareras' remains essential in the accompaniment and symbolic care of the Virgin of the Castle, popularly known as the Moreneta.
The 'camareras' are a key part of the central acts of the celebrations, especially in the «baixà» (descent) of the image from the castle to the urban center, as well as in the various liturgical and festive moments where the patron saint is the protagonist. Their role combines religious devotion with an important representative dimension within the community.
Alongside the election of the 'camareras', the designation of the «tauleters» for the same festive year has also been confirmed. On this occasion, those chosen are Jordi Mayor, Jacobo Colom, and Rafael Gisbert, who will form part of the festive machinery responsible for maintaining and representing another of the traditions linked to the patron saint's celebrations.
The designations of 'camareras' and «tauleters» constitute one of the most significant moments in the preparation of Cullera's festivities, as they establish the individuals who will embody the continuity of a historical tradition during the festive year. With these appointments, the city begins to outline the 2027 celebrations, in which devotion to the Mare de Déu del Castell will once again occupy a central place in the municipality's festive and cultural identity.
