The departure of the Vox councillor, after it emerged that he has been reported for mistreatment, marks the final chapter of a period that began with the party's entry into local government. This was one of the conditions of the pact signed with the Popular Party and the local formation AIGUA to unseat the previous executive of PSPV and Compromís in 2023.
That majority, which gave the Mayoralty to the Popular Party, allocated significant areas to Vox, such as Citizen Security or Culture, in addition to other departments. The party thus entered the municipal executive with two councillors and with the capacity to make its presence felt.
However, the cohabitation lasted less than two years. The episode that marked the rupture occurred in October 2025, when the mayor dismissed the Vox councillor for exceeding in the placement of Spanish flags on municipal buildings to commemorate Hispanic Day. The mayor described the scene as “a circus” and justified the dismissal due to a loss of confidence.
“"The mayor ended up describing the scene as “a circus” and justified the dismissal due to a loss of confidence."
Vox's response was to break the pact and accuse the mayor of having betrayed the defense of Spain's unity. But beyond the specific incident, the crisis confirmed the accumulated wear and tear within the local government. The Popular Party then chose to continue in a minority alongside AIGUA and advocate for a style of governance “without fanfare”.
Now, the councillor's resignation, following the publication of the mistreatment allegations, concludes this period in the most damaging way for the party's image in the municipality. His departure leaves Vox even more weakened in a locality where, in just over two years, it went from being an essential partner for a change of government to starring in a sequence of conflict, rupture, and attrition.
