The municipal leader requests a meeting with the minister in the letter to personally convey the problem caused by the unjustified personnel cuts and the lack of assignment to the public company Tragsatec in Columbretes. This request is made due to the absence of a response and with the unanimous agreement of all political parties that make up the municipal corporation.
“"The objective is to guarantee the most adequate protection of such valuable environmental heritage, which in turn is a first-rate tourist and educational resource for our city."
The letter highlights that in the last 45 days, 30 of them have had no direct protection due to the lack of human resources allocated to the archipelago by the Ministry. These cuts have been particularly noticeable during periods such as the past Easter Week, as they coincide with staff vacation periods.
This situation means that practically two out of three days, the marine reserve is completely unprotected, a circumstance that will worsen with the arrival of summer and summer holidays, which are precisely when these islands usually receive the most visitors. The Mayor has warned that Castellón's greatest natural treasure is already being frequented by poachers and the abandonment by the Government of Spain is endangering all its biodiversity.
In the defense of natural heritage, there should be no political colors, but rather a commitment to understanding and seeking immediate solutions to this threat. The Mayor has thanked the Generalitat for having reinforced the services it provides in Columbretes since last August, to try to alleviate this lack of protection they suffer.
