The incident occurred at dawn at an intersection in the Villarrubia neighborhood. The alleged perpetrator abandoned the scene after the hit-and-run, despite having spent the day with the victim's family members.
The investigation began with an inspection of the site, where agents found vehicle debris, specifically a wheel arch and a left rear headlight. These pieces allowed them to identify the make and model of the car involved.
Analysis of surveillance cameras confirmed the presence of a car with those characteristics leaving the town minutes after the incident, also showing that it was driving without the left rear headlight, matching the recovered fragment.
After several inquiries, agents located the suspect in the hamlet of Montortal. The young man admitted to having suffered an accident after consuming a large amount of alcohol, although he initially tried to place it in a rural area.
Subsequently, a search allowed the vehicle to be found stuck in an irrigation ditch in the municipality of Benimodo. The inspection confirmed that the damage matched the debris collected at the scene of the hit-and-run.
The investigation concluded that the victim had left her home to take out the trash when the detainee abruptly reversed, running her over. After the impact, he fled the scene until suffering the second accident and returned home on foot.
