For three days, Carcaixent immersed itself in the early 20th century with the 11th Modernist Fair. The event filled the municipality's heritage sites with historical reenactments, period characters, music, and a variety of cultural activities, allowing residents and visitors to relive the city's golden age, driven by the orange trade.
The program included everyday scenes of Carcaixent society, intrigues within stately homes, and street gossip. Music was a central element, with activities dedicated to bands, conservatories, popular dances, and the sounds that marked the daily life of a city in full transformation.
The world of oranges, the economic engine of the region in those years, played a prominent role. Reenactments showcased work in export warehouses and the tasks performed by female workers in preparing the fruit, key activities for the economic development of Carcaixent.
The fair also featured competitions in modernist attire, photography, quick painting, literature, and gastronomy. Additionally, exhibitions, orchard tours, and guided visits to emblematic buildings such as the Palace of the Marquesa, Casa Carreres, and the Ribera Warehouse were organized, serving as stages to bring the public closer to daily life over a century ago.
Under the slogan “Live the splendor of the orange,” the Modernist Fair offered an immersive experience combining heritage, culture, and historical memory to rediscover one of the most significant periods in the history of Carcaixent.
