Socialist spokesperson Patricia Puerta lamented the blockade of a declaration that merely reaffirmed the City Council of Castelló's commitment to equality, diversity, and the fight against any form of discrimination towards LGTBIQ+ individuals, as well as showing institutional support for the groups working to defend these rights.
Puerta finds it particularly striking that Carrasco's government prevented the socialist proposal from moving forward while being forced to transform their own initiative, mistakenly presented as an institutional declaration, into a motion. "The paradox is that the Popular Party will have to debate Pride Day in the plenary session after having vetoed our declaration, and they will do so due to an error in processing their own initiative," she stated.
During the Spokespersons' Board meeting, the Socialist Municipal Group warned that the Popular Party's text was not an institutional declaration but a motion. The General Secretary of the Plenary ratified this criterion, confirming that the initiative should be processed as a motion, "something that Mrs. Carrasco reluctantly accepted." "It is difficult to understand that a government that constantly boasts about its management is not even capable of correctly processing a plenary initiative. They vetoed our declaration and, at the same time, were forced to convert theirs into a motion that, despite their reluctance, will have to be publicly debated," Puerta concluded.
