This album, recorded live and conceived as a tribute to the legendary Dizzy Gillespie, represents the fourteenth album of his career and a new demonstration of his talent in contemporary jazz. The musician has a very close connection with Castellón, where he is co-director of the Big Band UJI and a professor in the jazz language and improvisation workshop at the Sociocultural Activities Service of the university.
The nomination places Pastor among the most prominent names in the Spanish instrumental scene. In this category, he will compete with Alba Ventura, Diego Amador, Antonio Gómez, and the duo formed by Katrina Penman and Claudia Vior, in one of the most open and diverse sections of the awards. It is worth remembering that in last year's edition of these awards, granted by the musicians themselves, the trumpeter was already a finalist in the Best Jazz Album category for his work TimeLapse.
Throughout his career, Pastor has accumulated numerous awards and nominations, consolidating himself as one of the most relevant figures in Spanish jazz. His participation in international projects and festivals also highlights his prestige both inside and outside the country. His connection with the Universitat Jaume I (UJI), thanks to his teaching work, reinforces his role as a jazz reference in the Valencian Community, combining artistic activity with the training of new generations of musicians.
Pastor's nomination is part of the third edition of these awards, which seek to recognize the excellence and diversity of current Spanish music, with nominations ranging from pop to classical music or jazz. The overall nominations also highlight the presence of the artist from Benicàssim, Guitarricadelafuente, who is among the candidates in main categories such as Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Best Pop Song, Best Pop Album, or Best Music Video.
