The Jaume I University in Castelló hosted the VIII National Congress of School Nurses and School Health Referents. The event, organized by the Spanish Scientific Association of Nursing in School Health-Valencian Community (Aceese-CV), brought together school nursing professionals, health officials, teachers, and institutional representatives from across the country.
At the opening, the Councilor for Education of the City Council of Castelló, María España, emphasized the growing role of this professional figure. España highlighted that school nursing "has ceased to be seen as a luxury or an add-on to become a necessity," underscoring its function for student well-being.
The councilor stated that education should not only focus on academic results but also on the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of students. She recalled that schools are "key spaces for promoting healthy habits from an early age."
Furthermore, she valued the congress as "an opportunity to exchange knowledge, do things better, and lay the groundwork for the roadmap of the coming years," and called for a more significant role for school health within the educational sphere.
