Utiel's Underground Cellars, a heritage treasure of the region, have reopened their doors today after restoration work following severe floods caused by the DANA.

Inland tourism and the heritage of the Valencian Community celebrate a long-awaited return. The Utiel City Council has officially announced the reopening of its Underground Cellars, considered the true "hidden treasure" of the municipality and one of its most valuable cultural assets. The facilities had remained closed as a precautionary measure due to the severe floods caused by the recent DANA, prioritizing the absolute safety of visitors.
Today, after rigorous architectural and consolidation work, the local government team has confirmed the completion of the rehabilitation efforts, restoring stability to this unique underground network that narrates the wine-making origins of the region.
The recovery of this historic space has been the result of a major technical undertaking. In the most critical moments following the storm, the Emergency and Catastrophe Rescue Unit (UREC) of the Diputación de Valencia Firefighters Consortium urgently carried out complex shoring operations necessary to protect the galleries from potential collapses.
Once the area was secured, the council undertook the definitive conditioning actions. The mayor of Utiel, who personally supervised the refurbishment of these historic cellars, highlighted the importance of this reopening, which not only reactivates the municipality's tourist offer but also stands as a symbol of Utiel's resilience in the face of climatic adversity.
With the forced closure now over, residents, curious visitors, and travelers have the opportunity to once again delve into the tunnels and passageways that form the town's astonishing underground legacy.
The Utiel City Council invites all citizens to discover this fully restored heritage.
