During the visit, the general directorate emphasized that this collaboration is fundamental to maintaining the quality standards and reputation of wines with the Utiel-Requena Designation of Origin. The main objective is to offer consumers the highest guarantees of food safety in all products.
In the Utiel-Requena region, approximately 104 wineries operate, most of them small. Some of these carry out the entire production process, from elaboration to bottling, while others focus their activity solely on the latter phase.
Professionals from the Food Safety Unit of the Utiel Public Health Center play a key role through official control actions in these facilities. Their work focuses on verifying compliance with sanitary regulations, ensuring hygienic conditions in all production phases, as well as supervising the storage and distribution of wine.
“"This collaboration allows us to maintain the quality standards and reputation of wines with the Utiel-Requena Designation of Origin, while offering consumers the highest guarantees of food safety."
These inspections primarily aim to protect consumer health and ensure that products reaching the market comply with all sanitary guarantees. The wine sector is also one of the main economic drivers of the Requena-Utiel department, with significant weight not only in the agricultural sector but also in the agri-food industry, local services, and wine tourism.
The activity of the Utiel Public Health Center thus reflects the strategic role of public health, not only in protecting the population but also in supporting key sectors of the territory. Along with food safety, the center has units for environmental health, occupational health, epidemiology, and health promotion, which work in coordination to improve citizen well-being.
